What’s On The Horizon For: The Red Sea International Airport

During Routes Europe 2025, Routes caught up with The Red Sea International Airport to discuss its regional growth and plans for international expansion.

Opened in September 2023, The Red Sea International Airport (RSI) serves The Red Sea destination—a luxury tourism development on Saudi Arabia’s west coast. Strategically located within a three-hour flight of 250 million people, the airport aims to welcome 1 million guests annually by 2030.

The destination offers a unique proposition for a growing segment of travelers seeking immersive experiences with minimal environmental impact. Over the past two years, it has seen rising demand within the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, supported by increased frequencies on domestic routes to Riyadh.

In April 2024, RSI welcomed its first international flight, with passengers arriving from Dubai International Airport—a key milestone in expanding the destination’s global connectivity. Speaking at Routes Europe 2025, RSI chief commercial officer Michael White shared insights into the airport’s plans for further international expansion.

A key goal for the airport is to increase the average length of stay across its growing portfolio of hotels and resorts—an effort that will be supported by rising international passenger traffic. “The European market is of particular interest, with significant opportunities we hope will come to fruition—especially in Germany, the UK and Italy,” White said.

Reflecting on face-to-face meetings with prospective airline partners during Routes Europe 2025, White added: “I’ve really enjoyed Seville! We’ve had some really good conversations with suitable network planners from airlines to foster constructive conversations.”

Earlier this year, RSI also participated in Routes Asia to engage Indian carriers and showcase the market potential of the Red Sea destination.
