The vintage of the Hawker 900XP dates back to 1968 when the company entered the business jet market. It is the latest version of a basic
design that has been improved and modified through the years with longer fuselages, more efficient wings, and more powerful, efficient
engines. The 900 XP is the best performing Hawker business jet yet produced, and has lower operating costs.
Creature comforts of the Hawker 900XP include a cabin that is 69" high and 72" at its widest point. In a typical passenger cabin
layout it's five seats are well padded and they can swivel and recline. A three person divan completes the seating arrangements.
In the front of the passenger cabin is a good size galley with a microwave oven and small refrigerator. A comfortable, fully enclosed
toilet is in the rear of the cabin.
Luggage is stored internally, forward on the Hawker 900 XP in a 33 cubic foot area adjacent to the aircraft's door, and aft in an
additional 16 cubic foot area. Passangers can access their luggage during flight.
Flying the Hawker 900XP is a delight. Its cockpit has lots of room and the seats are infinitely adjustable and comfortably
designed. The curved windshields provide good visibility. Ground steering is as easy as driving a car, while the aircraft's brakes
provide excellent stopping power without locking.
As with all Hawkers, should an engine fail during takeoff, an automated system applies reserve power to the operating
engine. Minimal extra rudder pressure is necessary for single engine straight flight.
Typical takeoff decision speed is 125 mph with rotation at 134 mph. One engine out climb is best at 145 mph. As with all similar
Hawker business jets, it takes a second or so before back pressure on the yoke at rotation speed lifts the aircraft's nose. After rotation the 900XP reacts to yoke inputs just like any other aircraft.
If you have flown its predecessor, you will quickly notice the additional power of the Hawker 900XP's engines. The climb rate is
particularly impressive. Cruise speed at 40,000 feet is about 507 mph with fuel consumption of around 205 gph. Long-range
cruise speed is about 460 mph with fuel consumption at around 171 gph.
The Hawker 900XP has a higher wing loading than its competitors, smoothing out turbulence. The extra loading has minimal effect on
handling and overall performance.
Landing the Hawker 900XP is aided by an easy to use speed-brake control that falls readily at hand. It has an infinite amount of positions to handle any landing speed. Once on the runway,
pulling the control to its extreme position will maximize flap extension to provide for quick stops.
Steep landing approaches resulting in less than perfect landings are well absorbed by the main landing gear of the Hawker 900XP so
that there is little chance of a bounce.
Over 40 Hawker 900XP aircraft have been produced to date.
