The CASA C-295, produced in Spain by Airbus Military, is an upgrade to a line of tactical transport aircraft that were first deployed in 1988. It has a longer airframe, more power, efficient engines, and can carry 1 1/2 times the cargo of its predecessor.

The reinforced fuselage and undercarriage of the C-295 enable high angle descents into small landing areas with less than perfect landings. This makes it possible to use the aircraft for emergency response sorties necessitating the use of poorly developed air fields. The C-295 is also capable of the precise deliveries of cargo in a cost effective, timely manner to conventional airfields. In addition to cargo transport, C-295 missions include the transporting of pallets, troops, search and rescue, MEDEVAC, plus parachuting troops and cargo.

The mission of the C-295 is facilitated by a specialized load system that is capable of handling military size pallets. At a length of 14 1/2 feet, the C-295 has the longest cargo storage area in its class, giving it the ability to transport a large variety of cargo. Not only can the C-295 cargo ramp be used to roll cargo into and out of the aircraft when on the ground, it can also be used during flight for air drops.

The CASA C-295 is equipped with a glass cockpit, and the latest avionics that not only fulfill, but exceed the most recent military and civil aviation standards.

To date about 78 CASA C-295 transports have been produced. They are primarily used by the Spanish Air Force, and are currently deployed with some 14 air forces around the world.
