FAA Certifies Autoland On Select King Air 350s

The FAA has certified Garmin’s Autoland and Autothrottle emergency landing system on select Beechcraft King Air 350 twin turboprops, Garmin announced Aug. 27.

Autoland/Autothrottle retrofit installations by Garmin authorized dealers are available on King Air 350s fitted with Garmin’s G1000NXi integrated flight deck and equipped with four-bladed props and PT6-60A engines, the company said.

“Nearly 1,000 King Air operators now enjoy the capabilities that the G1000 upgrade has provided them,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales, marketing, programs and support.

“This announcement adds a direct pathway to Autothrottle and Autoland equipage for many of those aircraft,” Wolf added. “This certification also marks the largest airplane to date equipped with Autoland and is the eleventh aircraft model certified with this potentially life-saving technology. It’s just the beginning.”

Other aircraft types certified for Autoland are the Beechcraft King Air 200, Cirrus SR22 and SF50 Vision Jet, Daher TBM 940 and 960, and Piper M600 SLS.

In a separate announcement on Aug. 26, Cirrus said its SR Series G7+ single-engine piston airplane has received Transport Canada Civil Aviation certification of its Safe Return Emergency Autoland system by Garmin. The SR G7+ is the first piston single equipped with an FAA-approved emergency landing system.
