Arena Aviation Capital has completed the acquisition of a portfolio of 10 Embraer 190-100 LR small narrowbody jets operated by Aeromexico, on behalf of an unnamed U.S.-based investor client.
The aircraft are subject to finance lease structures and represent Amsterdam-based Arena’s first investment in the regional aircraft market sector.
The transaction involving the aircraft, sourced from Brasilmex Leasing, was particularly complex and took more than 24 months of structuring and execution, Arena said. The final aircraft was delivered in June.
With this transaction, Arena has now sourced 135 aircraft for its investor clients since its launch in 2014. The company currently manages a portfolio of 60 leased aircraft and engines.
There has been an increasing number of transactions between leasing companies involving small narrowbody jets in recent years, an indicator of the type’s growing popularity among airlines, particularly when opening new routes or operating thin sectors that are uneconomic for narrowbodies.
Arena describes its role as facilitating “unbiased, independent full-service aircraft asset investment opportunities and management services for investors. We are not owned and controlled by any major industry player, and we do not have aircraft on our own balance sheet.”
