
American Airlines will launch service between its Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) hub and Mexico City, competing against four carriers on the route.
The airline will open year-round service between ORD and the Mexican capital’s Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) from Oct. 26. Flights will be operated daily.
American will challenge United Airlines and three Mexican carriers on the ORD-MEX route: Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris.
American will also open seasonal holiday service between ORD and Queretaro, Mexico, from Dec. 18 to Jan. 5, 2026, flying the route daily.
The airline previously announced it will add its 30th network point in Mexico when it launches service between its Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) base and Puerto Escondido from Dec. 3. The route will be operated 2X-weekly year round.
American added its 29th destination in Mexico in March with the commencement of daily service between DFW and Tampico.
According to CAPA – Centre for Aviation data, American is the leading carrier in the U.S.-Mexico transborder market (as of March), holding a 19.8% share of two-way seats. United follows with a 16.2% share. Next are Volaris (14.1%), Delta Air Lines (12.5%), Aeromexico (9.3%), Viva Aerobus (6%), Southwest Airlines (6%), Alaska Airlines (5.8%), JetBlue Airways (3.2%) and Spirit Airlines (2.5%).
American also unveiled it will launch a new daily service between Philadelphia and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from Dec. 18.
The oneworld carrier will operate over 430 daily flights from the U.S. to 97 airports in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America on peak days during the upcoming northern hemisphere winter season, with capacity rising 10% year-over-year.
