The Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) T-50 Golden Eagle is an advanced supersonic trainer and light attack aircraft. It was developed in a joint venture with Lockheed Martin.
The aircraft is being marketed as the only advanced trainer that will allow students to graduate immediately into flying the most modern, fifth generation fighter aircraft.
To accomplish its goals, the T-50 Golden Eagle is able to achieve controlled flight in high alpha modes with low stall speeds. Its digitally enhanced controls give the same feed back experienced in today's jet fighters. The cockpit is fighter like with all glass avionics typical
of a modern jet fighters.
Instructors and pilots both enjoy a cockpit that permits excellent visibility. The instructor has the benefit of a raised seat to enhance his front view. Full controls are available front and rear. Both front and rear control sticks have electronic linking, so the instructor can experience the stick movements of his student.
Instructors can even dial in control limits, gradually increasing travel as students acclimate to the aircraft. An on board computer records all flight information during training for later review.
The UAE evaluated the aircraft as trainers for their air force, but decided on another design. Finland, Indonesia, Israel, Poland and Singapore are considering purchasing the aircraft.
Some fifty KAI T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft have been produced and are expected to be deployed throughout the Korean Air Force in the near future.
