The Sukhoi Su-31 is the latest and most powerful of Sukhoi line of aerobatic aircraft. The aircraft is an improvement over the original aerobatic design. It first flew on June 22, 1992.
The Sukhoi Su-31 has a more powerful engine than its predecessor. Its power
to weight makes it capable of extensive vertical and high alpha
aerobatics. In its first world competition, the new aircraft placed third.
In 1995 the Sukhoi Su-31 became the first aircraft of its type to be equipped with an ejection seat.
From 1996 through 2003 Sukhoi aircraft reigned supreme in aerobatic
competitions, winning some 156 first place, 105 second place, and 69 third place medals.
