The Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk is the front line utility helicopter of the U.S. Army.

The UH-60 Blackhawk model A was originally deployed in 1979. In 1988 the model L was introduced with a more powerful engine. The latest model the M with state-of-the-art navigation, flight control, instrumentation, and engines is slated for use beyond the year 2020.
The US Army missions for the helicopter can involve medical evacuation models which are configured as rotary winged medical suites. The range of the helicopter may be extended by the use of as many as 4 external fuel tanks.
The U. S. Air Force version is designated the HH-60G Pave Hawk. Its mission is to recover downed air crews. For extended range it is fitted with a retractable refueling probe.
The United States Navy versions are designated the SH-60B and SH-60F Seahawks. Their missions are primarily ASW (Anti Submarine Warfare), and SAR (Search And Rescue.)
The United States Coast Guard version is designated HH-60J Jayhawk. Its missions are primarily SAR. They are equipped with the same rescue hoist equipment as the USAF HH-60G Pave Hawk.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the United States Army modified a Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk and called it the R A S C A L (Rotorcraft Aircrew Systems Concepts Airborne Laboratory) in 1991 to study rotary craft maneuverability.
A total of over 2,610 of the helicopters of all types have been built to date.
