The Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant was the largest German transport produced during WW II. They were the powered version of the
Me-321 glider propelled by six Gnome-Rhone 14N engines. Its propellers were three bladed, constructed from black wood.
Construction of the Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant was of fabric covered steel tube framing rather than
employing a more conventional monocoque fuselage. This was done as a
cost saving measure.
The Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant was capable of carrying around 100 armed troops
or 20,000 lbs. of cargo. Oversize cargo could be loaded through large
clam shell doors in the nose of the aircraft.
The Gigant served
throughout 1943 keeping the German army supplied.
About 200 Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant aircraft
were produced in all.

Radio Control Airplane
RC Me-323 Gigant from Graupner.
Radio Control Airplanes:
Pictured above and in the first picture below is the RC Messerschmitt Me-323 Gigant from a Graupner balsa and ply kit. Wing span of the radio control airplane is 65.5" and length is 34". Power for the rc airplane is by 6 x speed 280 motors. The radio control airplane is 1:33 scale with an all up weight of around 58 oz.
RC Airplane pilots report the flight of the Graupner rc Me-323 Gigant as very scale-like. Although the ailerons of the radio control airplane are effective, the rudder has very little authority. Once the RC Airplane is cruising at a comfortable altitude, you can maintain altitude at about 1/4 throttle.
The second picture below is the Me-323 Gigant rc scratch built by Terry Mitchell. The giant scale RC Airplane has a wing span of 157". Power for the radio control airplane comes from four Speed 600 and two Speed 400 motors, all geared 3.1:1. All up weight of the RC airplane is 24 lbs.
The last picture below is of the rc Me-323 Gigant radio control airplane scratch built by Peter Smart. The RC Airplane has a wing span of 49" and is powered by six Speed 200 motors. Peter used tissue covered balsa in the building of his radio control airplane. In 2004 the RC Airplane was an Indoor Nats entry.
