The Lockheed C-130H Spooky gunship is one of the most heavily armed U.S. aircraft.

The U.S.A.F. had Boeing take a total of thirteen Lockheed C-130H aircraft, stuff them with a sophisticated computerized fire control system, the same avionics as the most modern USAF fighters, 25 mm Gattling guns, 40 mm and105 mm cannons and gave them the name "Spooky." The nickname for prior AC-130 aircraft is "Spectre".

The Spooky aircraft can operate in all weather conditions and have the ability to support ground troops or take out separate selected targets over  1/2 mile apart with pinpoint accuracy.

The Spooky first saw action over Bosnia and  has most recently been used over Iraq.

Radio Control Airplanes:

If you like four engine RC Airplanes, you will find lots of C-130 radio control airplane models to choose from.

Precision Cut Kits.com has kits and plans for three sizes of C-130 RC Airplanes. All the radio control airplanes are from Palmer Plans.

The Precision Cut Kits 1:39 scale RC Airplane has a wing span of 52" and a length of 31".  The radio control airplane is designed to accept four Cox T.D. .051 engines, but is said to be easily converted to electric power.  Weight of the RC Airplane is around 4 lbs.

The Precision Cut Kits 1:18 scale radio control airplane has a wing span of 87" and a length of 64".  You can power the RC Airplane with four O.S. .25 FP engines.  The radio control airplane should weigh in at around 11 lbs.

The largest Precision Cut Kits RC Airplane is 1:12 scale.  The radio control airplane has a wing span of 132" and a length of 98".  Recommended power for the RC Airplane are four MWS .49 rear exhaust engines.  When ready to fly, the radio control airplane should tip the scales at just about 22 lbs.

Advanced Scale Models has a C-130 RC Airplane with a 100" wing span.  Construction materials for the radio control airplane are a plywood and balsa internal structure for the molded fuselage, reinforced with carbon.  Recommended to power the RC Airplane are either four  brushless motors, four .25 to .32 two cycle, or .30 four cycle engines.

If you like to power your radio control airplanes electrically there is a 60" wing span C-130 from EAM.  The RC Airplane uses 4 x 280 size motors. The first two pictures below are of Bill Sorrell and his EAM C-130 radio control airplane.

The last picture on this page is of the GWS C-130 ARF RC Airplane.  The wing span of the radio control airplane is 44" and length is 33".  Included with the RC Airplane are four electric motors.

Do you have a favorite C-130 or AC-130 radio  control airplane you would like to tell us about?  Have you seen a AC-130 kit, an ARF, or plans that you can recommend?  If so, please email us so we can share the information.
