Officially established in 1961, the Frecce Tricolori fly nine aircraft in team formation and a single aircraft demonstrates
as a solo. No other military flight demonstration team flies such a large number of aircraft.
The team carries out the tradition of numerous Italian
aerobatic teams dating back into the 1920's. They have performed over
2,000 times throughout the world and are still performing to this date.
On August 28, 1988, while performing before a crowd of about 300,000 people
at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, a Frecce Tricolori MB-339 aircraft
struck two other aircraft in the formation sending them plummeting into the
crowd. It resulted in the death of three of their pilots and 76 people in the crowd. An additional 346 people were seriously injured.

Pictured above is the Frecce Tricolori rc
airplane available from Graupner. The ARF has a wingspan of 73" and a
length of 73". Turbine power for the model can be a Jet Cat P 80
or Jet Cat P 120 engine. It weighs about 19 lbs.
Nitro Planes has a rc Frecce Tricolori EDF with a wingspan of 44".

weight of 21 oz. The primary material used in the construction is EPP. You will need a 2
channel radio to control the elevator and ailerons. It flies best in winds over 10 mph.
Winger Models has plans for a rc Frecce Tricolori for sale. It has a wing span of 27".
The final picture on this page is of the Frecce Tricolori rc for sale by BZ-Modellbau. Wingspan is 77" and the
fuselage is 75" long. A minimum 14 lb. thrust turbine is necessary for
power. Weight is around 19 lbs.
