Frecce Tricolori was officially established in 1961. They fly nine aircraft in team formation and a single aircraft demonstrates as a solo. No other military flight demonstration team flies such a large number of aircraft.
Frecce Tricolori carries out the tradition of numerous Italian aerobatic teams dating back into the 1920's. They have performed over 2,000 times throughout the world and are still performing to this date.
On August 28, 1988 while performing before a crowd of about 300,000 people at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, a Frecce Tricolori MB-339 aircraft struck two other aircraft in the formation sending them plummeting into the crowd. It resulted in the death of three Frecce Tricolori pilots and 76 people from the crowd. An additional 346 people were seriously injured.

Pictured above is the Frecce Tricolori RC Airplane available from Graupner. The ARF radio control airplane has a wing span of 73" and a length of 73". Turbine power for the RC Airplane can be a Jet Cat P 80 or Jet Cat P 120 engine. Graupner's radio control airplane weighs about 19 lbs.
