The
F-84, produced by Republic and called the Thunderjet, was the first
U.S. fighter to be produced after the end of World War II. It was
also
the first USAF fighter capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
The Strategic Air
Command used the F-84 as a fighter escort for
their heavy bombers.
We received the following email from Will Beavor:

I built another F-84 (with a more powerful setup in it)
and I put a clear detailed cockpit on both -I have attached a picture
(see directly above).

The
swept wing F-84 for sale from K & A Models, built by Mike
Warren. It has a wingspan of
33".
Materials used in the construction are a fiberglass fuselage and
foamy core
wings. At least a 400 watt brushless motor should be
used for power, driving either a
mini 480 or 609 fan unit.
All up weight is between 3 and 3 1/2 lbs.
F-84 aircraft were the first U.S. fighters capable of air to
air refueling. As a demonstration of the USAF long
range jet
fighter capabilities, F-84 aircraft flew non stop from
Turner
AFB, Georgia, U.S.A. to RAF Lakenheath, U.K. using air to air
refueling.
The flight, during August of 1953, set a single
engine jet fighter distance
record of 4,485 miles.
A F-84
slope soarer from Paul Janssens plans. It
has a
wingspan of 35" and uses ailerons and elevator

During the Korean War the
F-84 was initially used as a bomber escort. Later missions
included
ground attack. On May 15, 1953, F-84 aircraft knocked
out North Korean
dams causing a massive loss of electrical
power. Before the Korean war ended, F-84 aircraft completed over
86,400 missions,
dropping over 50,000 tons of ordnance. F-84
pilots claimed victories or hits on 105 North Korean jets.
A F-84
for sale from PST Jets. The rc model airplane has a
wingspan of 90 1/2" and a length of 83". It has
a
composite fuse and balsa laminate wings. PST recommends their
J1300 or J1600 turbine engine. Dry weight is around 31 lbs.
Over 2,000 F-84 aircraft were supplied to U.S.
allies before production ended. They continued to fly until
1971.
The rc
F-84 built by Dotcom of RC Groups. Wingspan is 33
1/2" and it is 35 1/2" long. The fuselage is all
wood and wings are balsawoood over foamy.
Power comes from a Mega
16/15/2 motor turning a 70 mm EDF unit.
A
total of 7,524 F-84 aircraft of all types were produced.
