The F-16 Fighting Falcon is produced by Lockheed Martin. It is the most
numerous fighter aircraft in the West with over 4,500 built to
date.
In the air combat role, the F-16 has
BVR, day/ night, and all weather capabilities. It can fly over 500
miles and back to deliver ordnance during air-to-surface missions.
USAF F-16 Fighting Falcons were deployed
to the Persian Gulf in 1991 during
Desert Storm. They flew more
missions of all types than any other aircraft.
The aircraft is equipped with one of the most sophisticated
radar systems
in the world, the APG-80. Pilots remark on the
clutter free display,
long range (up to 50 miles), multiple
targeting, ease of operation from
various cockpit inputs, high
resolution and its multi functional operations.
Latest versions of the F-16 keep the pilot informed with a wide
angle Head Up Display and infra red
imaging. The aircraft needs
only the turning of two switches for engine start. It can be ready to
take off in less than sixty seconds from engine start.
For ECM (electronic countermeasures), the F-16
Fighting Falcon carries the
ALQ 131 pod. It can deal with multiple
threats on numerous frequencies
with high intensity jamming
technologies. On board analysis constantly
updates and matches the
ECM response with the presented threats.
The pilot may just have the best view from the cockpit of any modern day
fighter pilot. The center of gravity of the aircraft is biased
slightly rearward for improved maneuverability, yet the aircraft
is fully controllable at all angles of attack and speeds. This is made possible
by a computerized fly-by-wire system.
Wing leading edge strakes of the F-16 Fighting Falcon permit high attack
angles without the consequences of boundary air layer separation
causing loss of lift. The ailerons can be lowered up to 20 degrees,
operating as flaperons to increase lift and control during take offs
and landings. Both leading and trailing edge flaps are computer controlled to increase maneuverability.
One would think that the air inlet location of the engine would suck in a
great deal of runway debris, yet this does not appear to be the case.
On Dec. 27, 1997 a F-16 downed an Iraqi Air Force MiG-23 in the no fly
zone, using missiles.
On Feb. 18, 1994, they attacked and downed a total of four sub-sonic Serbian Galeb trainer/light
strike aircraft over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Beginning on March 18, 2003, the aircraft participated in the American invasion of Iraq.
On June 7, 2006, they carried out two air strikes in which Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi,
the leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq was killed.
On July 12, 2006, Israeli F-16 aircraft participated in the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.
On Nov. 27, 2006, one F-16 on a ground support mission went down
northwest of Baghdad. Militants claimed that they downed the
aircraft using 2 SA-7 missiles while it was flying at very low altitude.
Since 1978 the USAF has taken delivery of 2,231 F-16 Fighting
Falcons. The final aircraft produced was delivered to them on
March 18, 2005. They do not plan to order any additional aircraft.
The first of eighteen F-16 Fighting Falcon
aircraft ordered by Pakistan were delivered in late 2009, with the
balance of the order completed in 2010.

for power.
In the last picture on this
page is the F-16 for sale from Kyosho. Wingspan is 23 1/2"
and length is 30". It comes with a motor plus 55 mm fan unit
and weighs about 1 lb.
Cermark has a large F-16 for sale that is
powered by a .61 to .91 two stroke
engine in the nose driving a
propeller. It has a wingspan of 47 1/2" with a length of
65" and weighs around 9 lbs.
HET-RC
has a F-16 Falcon for sale with a 25" wingspan. It is
39"
long with a fiberglass fuselage and balsa over foam
wings. You will
need to provide a motor and 70 mm fan unit. Weight
is about 38 oz.

sale in kit form. It uses a 5" Turbax Fan System. Wingspan is
40" and length 55".
Skyartec has a F-16 for sale with a 64 mm
EDF unit. It has a 26" wingspan and 35" length.
Weight is about 18 oz. all up.
Skymaster
Jet has the F-16 for sale. The
smaller has a 51" wingspan, a 73" length, with
recommended engines producing 12 - 17 lbs. of thrust.
The larger F-16 for sale has a 65"
wingspan, a 98" length. Its engines should produce a minimum
of 23 lbs and maximum of 34 lbs thrust.
