---------------------------------------------------

The Skymaster from Cessna is an entry level, twin engine aircraft used by civil aviation and the military. In line engines are able to provided better control than standard twin engine aircraft in the event of an engine-out situation.

Skymaster civilian aircraft first took to the sky in 1961. The military version first flew in 1967. They were deployed in Vietnam, primarily for observation purposes.

Flying the Skymaster is easier than flying most twins with engines on their wings. You light up the back engine, make sure all is okay, than the front one.

Visibility from the pilot seat is excellent. The airplane sits in a level position on the ground. It steers easily. Surprisingly, cabin sound level does not appear to be higher than conventional twin engine aircraft. However, engine vibrations do enter the cabin.

Once the takeoff roll begins, the aircraft feels very much like any other light twin. Getting into the air after a moderate run is easy. The Skymaster will easily climb out at 1,000+ feet per minute. The airplane smooths out bumpy chop throughout its speed range.

At higher speeds it takes a bit more pressure to move the ailerons than on other light twins. However, the amount of pressure necessary  to move the controls never becomes uncomfortable.

While not apparent in standard flight, the in-line engines can be of great advantage in an engine out situation. There is no need to stand on a rudder pedal to compensate for loss of engine power to one side or the other of the aircraft. Anyone who is comfortable flying a higher performance single engine aircraft will easily adapt to the Cessna Skymaster.

Landings are easy. The flaps slow the aircraft well. Reducing power to idle over the end of the runway produces a gentle float and touch down. The landing gear does a good job of absorbing the weight of the aircraft as it touches the runway. The brakes work well in bringing the Skymaster down to taxi speed quickly.

The aircraft have served in many countries around the world. A total of 2,993  Skymaster aircraft of all types were manufactured through 1982.

Pictured above is the 81" wingspan rc Skymaster from NitroPlanes.  It comes in two color schemes and has a length of 62". For power you will need a pair of .46 engines. All up weight is about 10 lbs.

If you are looking for a smaller, inexpensive rc Skymaster, check out NitroPlanes. They have a model with a 55" wingspan and 43" length that weighs around 5 lbs. You will need to supply either two 450 size brushless motors or .25 two cycle engines.

The first and second pictures below are of the rc Skymaster from ST Model. Wingspan is 50" and fuselage length is 37.5".  It is of all foam construction. Recommended power can be a pair of Speed 400 geared motors or the equivalent brushless motors. Weight is about 2 3/4 lbs. ready to fly.

The third picture below is of the rc Skymaster from Kit Cutters. It has a wingspan of 119" and length of 93". It is from Wendell Hostetler Plans. Kit Cutters has a full kit, short kit or plans. You will need a pair of 1.8 c.i.d. or larger engines. Weight is from 32 to 40 lbs.

The last picture on this page is of the Aviomodelli rc Skymaster. Wingspan of the kit is 86 1/2" and length is 45 1/2". Balsawood and plywood are used for construction. To power it you will need a pair of .46 or larger 2 cycle or .65 or larger 4 cycle engines. Upon completion it should weigh around 13 1/2 lbs.

If you have built a rc Skymaster you would like to show off or know of one we should mention, don't hesitate to email us.

RT Aerospace has a rc Skymaster that comes as a semi kit.  It has a wingspan of 91". Construction is all epoxy glass. You can power it with a pair of .40 to .60 two stroke or .56 to .90 four stroke engines.

Zeke's Park Scale Models has rc Skymaster. The kit builds to a wingspan of 37" and a length of 28 1/2". Recommended power comes from a pair of GWS IPS-S2 motors. It is for rudder, elevator, and throttle control and weighs 10 1/2 oz.

Park Pilots has a rc Skymaster that has a 50" wingspan and a 31" length. It is a foamy that comes ready to fly and includes a pair of geared motors, and radio.
