The Brewster F2A Buffalo was one of the best fighter aircraft in the air force of Finland from 1941 to 1945.  There it was designated as the B-239 Taivaan Helmi.

In Finnish service Brewster F2A aircraft were credited with 496 aircraft victories. The had losses of nineteen aircraft. The top Finnish Brewster pilot was Hans Wind who had a total of 39 victories flying his B-239 aircraft.

The Finnish Air Force made a number of improvements to the Brewster B-239. These included the installation of pilot seat armor and replacing the two .30 cal. machine guns with four of .50 cal.  The aircraft sights were also improved.

The Brewster F2A was the first monoplane fighter aircraft of the United States Navy. Some USMC Brewster aircraft saw action in the Battle of Midway where they gained a reputation of one of the worst combat aircraft. It is said that the aircraft was not at fault, but rather inadequate pilot skills. Rather than take advantage of the dive speed and toughness of the aircraft, inexperienced pilots tried to outmaneuver the Japanese A6M Mitsubishi Zero aircraft.

A total of 509 Brewster Buffalo aircraft of all types were produced.

Radio Control Airplanes:

Kit Cutters Inc. is a great source for the Brewster F2A RC Airplane.  They have radio control airplane plans, plus short and full kits available.

Kit Cutters has four sizes of Brewster F2A RC Airplanes from Cleveland Model Plans.  The wing span sizes of the radio control airplanes are 35", 52" 69" and 104".

You will find four sizes of  Brewster F2A RC Airplanes from Jerry Bates Plans available through Kit Cutters.

The 105"  wing span radio control airplane can be powered with a 3.7 to 5.2 c.i.d. engine.  Weight of the RC Airplane is from 35 to 38 lbs.

The Kit Cutters 84" wing span radio control airplane can be powered with G-45 to G-62 engines.  The RC Airplane will weigh between 18 and 24 lbs.

Next is a 63"  wing span radio control airplane.  Power for the RC Airplane can be a .90 engine.  Weight of the radio control airplane is from 10 to 12 lbs.

The smallest Kit Cutters F2A RC Airplane from Jerry Bates Plans has a wing span of just 42".  Recommended power for the radio control airplane is a .25 to .30 engine.  The RC Airplane should weight between 4 and 6 lbs.

All the Buffalo radio control airplane pictures on this page are of the 1/4 scale, 105" wing span RC Airplane built by Mike Selby from Jerry Bates Plans available through Kit Cutters.  His radio control airplane is powered by a 3W150 twin engine.

Mike describes his F2A RC Airplane as easy to fly.  The radio control airplane will take off quickly after a short run.  The 3W150 engine of the RC Airplane gives it an unlimited vertical climb. Aileron response of the radio control airplane is very strong.  The flaps of the RC Airplane are very effective in slowing the radio control airplane for a soft landing.
