The Boeing Stearman PT-17, also known as the Stearman Model 75 Kaydet, is one of the world’s best known biplanes. The Boeing Stearman aircraft was made by the Stearman division of the Boeing Company. The Boeing Stearman was the primary training aircraft for thousands of airmen from 1935 to 1945.

There were numerous designations for the Boeing Stearman aircraft, used both by the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. The air frames of these aircraft were essentially identical, with the major difference being the types of radial engines used to power the aircraft. Also, Army Boeing Stearman aircraft had a tail wheel that could be steered. Navy Boeing Stearman aircraft had a tail wheel that swiveled.

Boeing Stearman aircraft are known for their ease of handling, ruggedness, and reliability.

Some 8,400 Boeing Stearman aircraft were built through 1945.

Today over 1,000 Boeing Stearman aircraft are still flying as crop dusters and recreational aircraft. A number can be seen performing in air shows.

Radio Control Airplanes:

Pictured above is the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane from a Balsa USA kit.  The giant scale Boeing Stearman radio control airplane has a wing span of 116" and a length of 92".  Recommended power for the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane is a RCS 215 radial engine.  All up weight of the radio control airplane should be between 45 and 50 lbs.

The first picture below is of the ARF Boeing Stearman RC Airplane from GWS.  Wing span of the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane is 38" and fuselage length is 30". Included with the radio control airplane is a EPC 350 geared motor.

The second picture below is of the Great Planes Super Stearman ARF RC Airplane.  The radio control airplane has a wing span of 71 1/2" and a length of 57".  Balsa and plywood construction is used throughout the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane.  To power the radio control airplane you will need a 1.20 four cycle engine.

K & W Model Airplanes has a Boeing Stearman RC Airplane that they sell either as an ARF or kit. The wing span of the radio control airplane is 76" and length is 59".  You can power the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane with a .60 to .90 two stroke or .90 to 1.20 four stroke engine.

Kit Cutters will sell you plans, full kits or short kits of the Boeing Stearman radio control airplane from Scale Plans in two sizes.  Wing spans of the Boeing Stearman RC Airplanes are either 96 1/2" or 64".

Kit Cutters also has a full kit, short kit or plans of the Boeing Stearman radio control airplane from Flying Scale Models.  The Boeing Stearman RC Airplane has a wing span of 58".  Recommended power for the radio control airplane can come from .52 to .60 four cycle engines or a Speed 700 size electric motor.

A 76" wing span Boeing Stearman RC Airplane is available from Kit Cutters.  This radio control airplane is from Jerry Bates Plans.  Like all RC Airplanes from Kit Cutters this one is also available as a short kit, full kit, or plans.  To power the Boeing Stearman radio control airplane you can use from .90 to 1.08 two cycle engines or a 1.20 four cycle engine.  All up weight of the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane is from 12 to 18 lbs.

Nitro Models has a ARF Stearman radio control airplane with a 44" wing span.  Fuselage length of the RC Airplane is 38 1/2".  The Boeing Stearman radio control airplane is made from balsa and ply with an all up weight of around 5 1/2 lbs.  Recommended power for the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane comes from .52 to .70 four stroke engines.

The bottom picture on this page is of a Boeing Stearman radio control airplane built from Nick Ziroli Plans.  You can also purchase a short kit from Nick Ziroli for the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane.  Wing span of the radio control airplane is 77" and fuselage length is 59".  With the recommended Zenoah G38 engine the weight of the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane should be between 16 and 20 lbs.

Nick Ziroli also has plans or a short kit for a 87" wing span Boeing Stearman radio control airplane with a 68" fuselage length.  To power the RC Airplane a Zenoah G62 engine is recommended. All up weight of the Boeing Stearman radio control airplane can be from 32 to 35 lbs.

If you know of other ARF's, plans, or kits for the Boeing Stearman RC Airplane or if you have built a Boeing Stearman radio control airplane and would like to show it off,  please email us.
