On August 18, 2008 a Augusta Westland AW109 (formerly Augusta A109) Grand model helicopter completed a round the world record trip. The unmodified Augusta AW 109 helicopter set a new world speed record by completing the journey in 271 hours and one minute.
 
The Augusta AW109 is a light utility helicopter. The Augusta AW 109 Grand model of the helicopter has an extended cabin with seating for an additional two passengers.
