A-10 aircraft have been proposed to be used as air tankers. It is argued that the retired aircraft could be refurbished with 2,000 gallon water/retardant tanks. Their maneuverability would make them ideally suited for maneuvering in the passes and canyons of California.
However, employees of the California Dept. of Forestry have pointed out that the U.S. government hasn't put any of retired A-10 aircraft up for sale. Other drawbacks are that because the aircraft armor can not be removed, a 2,000 gallon tank would make the aircraft severely over weight.

A Republic A-10 Air Tanker R C Airplane may be just the ticket for people who want a high visibility paint scheme on their radio control airplane.
Pictured above is the A-10 RC Airplane from GWS. The radio control airplane is an EDF powered by 2 GWS EDF 55 fans with S 300 brushless motors. Wing span of the RC Airplane is 38". The radio control airplane has a length of 34".
In the picture immediately below is the A-10 RC Airplane by Combat Models. The radio control airplane has a wing span of 52" and a length of 47". You have a number of power choices for the Combat Models RC Airplane. The radio control airplane can be powered with 2 x .40 pusher props, or 2 x .25 gas ducted fans. Combat models even recommends electric ducted fans for their RC Airplane!
In the second picture below is the profile model A-10 radio control airplane from Instant RC. The RC Airplane can be powered by 2 x J250 type motors. Wing span of the radio control airplane is 28" and length is 26 3/4".
